My background
I am a Clinical Psychologist and a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with extensive training in evidence-based psychological therapies and contemporary psychoanalytic modality. My professional memberships include being a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS); Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychology (FCCLP) and member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (MVAPP). Prior to establishing private practice in 2010, I spent a number of years working within hospital and community Mental Health units in Melbourne, having had a career-change from working within corporate Human Resources in Brisbane and Sydney. I work with adults struggling with various forms of life struggles including anxiety and mood disorders, complex trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem and identity issues, grief and loss, sexuality, motivation and work related issues.
My approach to health and healing
“Pathmaker, there is no path, paths are made by walking.”
– Antonio Machado
My focus of work is on the connection between our psychological difficulties in adulthood and our unresolved or unsatisfactory experiences in early life which we are often not aware of, and which are re-triggered by distress associated with current life difficulties and symptoms. I work psychoanalytically, which is a psychological treatment that can assist people with a range of difficulties such as underlying confusion with who one is, issues relating to anxiety and depression, problems in living, complex trauma, sexuality and sexual identity, unresolved grief and relationship difficulties that have not responded to other forms of treatment, such as medication or cognitive behaviour therapy. Whilst my core focus is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, my approach to therapy is integrative, drawing from a variety of evidence-based clinical theory, techniques, and empirical research which synthesise my own lived experience, deep emotional work, wisdom of my own internal world balanced by intellectual and scientific rigour.
Having worked both within hospital and corporate work environments providing psychological consulting, mentoring / coaching, and wellbeing services to workplaces, my interests include psychological and emotional challenges to the individual within the workplace as well as adults and the elderly struggling with various mental health and relationship challenges.
